Although born in Beaufort, SC, Marc’s roots are in West Monroe, LA. After attending Louisiana Technical University for one year, Marc decided to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. After a period of just over ten years and obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, Marc was medically discharged. Deciding to make a new start in life, a job opportunity opened the door for Marc and his new wife, Kathryn (Moreland), to leave New Orleans, LA, and move to Colorado Springs, CO. While employed as a defense contractor, Marc once again started college and completed his degree five years later. He graduated with a BS in Management of Information Systems, Summa Cum Laude, from Colorado Technical University, and is currently pursuing his master's degree in military history. Marc enjoys hunting, fishing, studying military history, traveling, genealogy and is an avid baseball and football fan. Marc and Kathryn have two sons, Nathan and Dalton. Marc descends from Valentine, John, Stephen, Samuel, Enoch, Jonathan, William, Dawson, Oscar and Bob.
Born in Elkton, MD November 3, 1952 to John M. and Mary P. Young. 3 brothers
and 2 sisters (some half, some full, all family). Lived in "Old Stone
House" at "Elk Landing" until July 1965, moved with
mother and younger siblings to Wilmington, DE. My grandmother, Isabel Hollingsworth
Mackall Young, and my mother sparked an interest in Hollingsworth and other
family histories at an early age. After several attempts at college I became
a land surveyor (without knowledge of my Hollingsworth surveyors background).
This career allowed me to be outdoors and quite a bit of travel, including a
stint with the Peace Corps to Kenya, East Africa. Surveying also brought me
closer to an understanding of and interest in American history. In the late
1970's I moved to Tampa, FL and in 1981 married Linda Savage of Lewes, DE. The
year 1987 began with our daughter, Kaitlin Anne being born, followed in 1989
by our son, John M. Young III. A back injury in the early 1990's resulted in
an early retirement from New Castle County, but made more time for activities
that included a seat on the Historic Elk Landing Foundation board and now a
position as historian for our beloved Descendants of Valentine Hollingsworth
Senior Society. I would love to see the "Stone House" restored
by all of us, that way my life would seem to have come full circle. A limited
number of "Elk Landing" photographs are still available, please
contact me for details. Thanks to all of you for your continued interest and
support in reaching this important and worthwhile goal. John descends from Valentine
Hollingsworth Sr., Henry Hollingsworth (11/07/1658), Zebulon Hollingsworth,
Sr., Zebulon Hollingsworth, Jr., Wm. Hollingsworth (4/23/1780), Isabella Hollingsworth
(Mackall) (7/19/1830), Wm. Hollingsworth Mackall, Isabel Hollingsworth Mackall
(Young), and John Mackall Young, Sr.
